The Mother-In-Law by Sally Hepworth

Title: The Mother-In-Law
Author: Sally Hepworth
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press

Format: Hardcover
Publication Date: April 23, 2019
Length: 347 pages

I love Sally Hepworth’s style of writing. She writes from the daughter-in-law’s point of view and the mother-in-law’s point of view as well as other family members. The novel is a thriller in relation to the complications mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws have. Lucy desires a close relationship with a mother-in-law that keeps a distance from her. She knows she isn’t the ideal daughter-in-law according to Diana, a leader in the community who helps women in need. She doesn’t understand Diana’s behaviors and how closed off she is. Hepworth slowly reveals both sides of the story that shows both of their strengths and weaknesses. Her characters are so well developed.
